Hi all,
If you have never happened upon a title in GRAPHIC MEMOIR, here is an introduction to the wonderful, colourful & downright entertainingly bizarre world of this genre of graphic novel for ADULTS.
These books will defy your and the most hardened memoir aficionado expectations of the format and indeed the genre, I guarantee it! If a picture tells a thousand words as they say, then these books speak volumes.
To quickly explain the difference between graphic novels and comics, as I see it, is that comics are more likely to be serialised adventures in the one continuing story, whereas a graphic novel is a complete story in the one volume, hence the associated title of novel.
To get you up to speed I have chosen 10 titles as a starter... these do not include well known titles such as Maus & Persepolis (in our collection of course!) ... but memoirs of a more personal experience of the world.
Now, memoir is not biography, and it is different from autobiography in that rather than discuss the whole life of a person, in a longer arc, memoir can be an event, a day, a diary of a particular lived experience.
I hope to encourage you to read this genre, enjoy something new and unique and take it to our patrons so they too can dive into the fantastic, artistic, moving world of Graphic Memoir.
